How I Went from Excruciating Pain to a Personal Record in Just Two Weeks

In August 2024, I found myself in a situation that so many of my patients experience—I was injured, and it was stopping me from doing what I love. I had hurt myself so badly that I couldn’t even hold a barbell on my back without excruciating pain. Squatting was completely off the table.
Fast forward to two weeks later, and I hit a 440lb squat for 8 reps—a lifetime personal record.
How Did That Happen So Fast?
Most people assume that injuries just take time to heal and that the best thing to do is rest and wait. But that’s not how I approached this. Instead, I followed the exact same process we use with our patients at Prevail Rehab & Performance.
Super-fast healing is possible when you:
✅ Know exactly what was injured.
✅ Know exactly what needs to be done about it.
Without these two pieces of information, recovery becomes a guessing game—one that often leads to frustration, unnecessary rest, and slow progress.
Why Most People Struggle to Heal Quickly
If you’ve had an injury that isn’t recovering as fast as you’d like, chances are one of those two keys is missing. Either:
You don’t fully understand what’s injured. Many people assume their pain is due to one thing when it’s actually caused by something else entirely. Misdiagnosing the problem leads to wasted time on the wrong solutions.
You don’t know exactly what needs to be done. A rehab plan that doesn’t progressively load the tissue, challenge your movement, and rebuild strength won’t get you back to 100%—let alone performing at a higher level than before.
The Difference the Right Approach Makes
Because I knew precisely what I had injured, I was able to stay active and train around the injury safely instead of avoiding movement altogether. Then, once I was ready, I progressively rebuilt my squat pattern and strength. That’s why, just two weeks later, I wasn’t just pain-free—I was setting new personal records.
This is what we do every day at Prevail Rehab & Performance. If you’ve been dealing with an injury that just won’t heal the way you want it to, don’t waste more time guessing. Book an appointment, and we’ll help you figure out exactly what’s going on—so you can get back to doing what you love, stronger than ever.
